Stamp Collecting Toward DXCC

Recently a friend of mine posted on Twitter that he needed one more DXCC confirmation to reach the #1 Honor Roll. Then he proposed to take up stamp collecting. Ahah, I’ve beaten him to that last stage and am unlikely to reach the former stage.

While I collect stamps, for the most part, I collect first-day issue envelopes, stamps, and postmarks. I wrote about my hobby in May 2011 and April 2020. I’ve specialized in amateur radio first-day covers, with a few Voice of America, CBC, and Scouting covers thrown into the mix.

This morning I went through my album and, with a smartphone in hand, ran a few quick scans to provide some insight into how the collection has grown. My sole source for this collection is eBay, where a new one will appear every once in a while. Perhaps that is somewhat like collecting DXCC countries!

Here’s the album. They are not the best shots, but it gives you an idea of the extent of my collection and how beautiful some of those first-day covers can be.

  1. Wow, that is a very impressive collection Jim. I used to do stamp collection, first day issues as well long before I started the radio hobby. Tnx for showing it to us. 73, Bas PE4BAS

  2. Thank you very much for your reply. I already have all current DXCC countries worked plus a little bit more (356/340). So now I will chase Amateur Radio Stamps and First Day Covers.
You have a wonderful stamp’s collection and lots of interesting and valuable Ham Radio articles in your page. Congratulations.
