The other day I ran across a listing of CW abbreviations and spotted 55, which stands for “best success.” So I have decided to start using it in my casual RTTY messages.
Now I’m somewhat known for taking up lost causes. This, however, is a cause that has yet to be found! Just for verification, I’ve found two websites that reference the use of 55. You can find them at PA3BWK’s Ultimate Morse Code Website and at AC6V’s site’s Morse Code Operating Aids.
You might try it yourself in your CW and RTTY contacts. See if you can get a few people scratching their heads. It’s always good to change a few things just to mix it up.
73 and 55
I have heard 55 being used on ham bands but way back as a SWL and only rarely so I suppose it could have been early 1970’s to 80’s. I’ve never heard it since.
Today I listened to some cw and they signed off with 73 and it just reminded me that I’d not heard it for years and thought I’d look it up and came across this.
