I’ve been participating in the ARRL Frequency Measuring Tests. April 2019 was my third effort and the only one where I’ve missed getting into the green box of those with under 1 Hz error.
You can learn more about my measuring method at my ARRL FMT November 2018 blog post. Not much changed this time around. I did run the WSJT-X frequency calibration the afternoon of the test.
Results for the 40 meter run were -0.07 Hz off. So that should mean that my method is essentially right on the mark as well as the calibration around 7 MHz. However, my 80 meter measurements were 1.06 Hz off. So something isn’t quite right at 3.5 MHz. The signal was strong for both measurements.
I do need to review the broadcast stations I’m using for calibration and certainly add the 2.5 MHz signal from WWV — although I usually can’t hear it at that frequency. Plus, I can also add 3.33 MHz from CHU, again often not heard here.
I’m actually more interested in the FMT now that I need to ramp up my efforts a bit more. One more aspect of the amateur radio hobby. I hope you’re trying it out.
