Spent some time wandering around the EM22/EM23 area this past week to locate some solid rover locations for the upcoming ARRL September VHF Contest. I was rewarded with what look to be excellent locations that are within a few miles of each other. This should help with a quick move between the two locations.
Along the way, I also managed to activate the EM22/EM23 gridline for satellite QSOs on a couple of passes of AO-92. That was fun.
Here’s my planned rover route for the contest:
Saturday, September 8:
- 1 PM CDT — EM03xe Wizard Wells
- 3 PM CDT — EM02xt Lake Mineral Wells
- 6 PM CDT — EM01wv south of Hico
Sunday, September 9:
- 7 AM CDT — EM11vx Eureka
- 9 AM CDT — EM12va Richland Chambers
- 11 AM CDT — EM21ax Cayuga
- 2 PM CDT — EM22ax south of Lone Oak
- 4 PM CDT — EM23aa north of Lone Oak
I’ll be running with 100 watts on 6 and 2 meters, 75 watts on 70 cm using SSB, FT8, and MSK144. CW will also be available. Antennas will be on a 25 foot mast with 6 meter stressed moxon, 2 meter 6-element yagi, and 70 cm 15-element yagi.
Hope to work you during the contest.
