My AMSAT Rover Award arrived in the mail today. If you haven’t looked at the requirements, check them out at AMSAT Rover Award. Thanks to Bruce Paige, KK5DO, for all his work to develop this award.
You can rest assured that I don’t hold a candle to the grid activations of the all time satellite rover greats, many of them on the list of those who’ve earned the award already. But I did look over the requirements and found a few things to help my cause.
The big one was documenting a grid activation in the AMSAT Journal, titled “Satellite Roving at 104 degrees Longitude” in the January/February 2018 issue. That alone was worth 15 of the required 25 points.
I also picked up another 5 points for advertising my grid activation 24 hours in advance, plus 5 more for providing photos, all on Twitter. Then I needed to fit in a few points from actual on-the-air FM and SSB satellite grid activations.
If you haven’t yet looked at this award, and if you’re interested in picking up another certificate, I encourage you to check it out.
For me, it’s all part of my ham radio adventures and fits with that drive I picked up as a young Scout to earn the next badge. Have fun!
